One name that stuck out for us was Kenyan-born artist KayCyy, who lends his vocals to track 16 “Keep My Spirit Alive,” a mid-tempo gospel-inspired track in which he sings the chorus. He’s flanked on the song by verses from Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, and Kanye.

KayCyy, or KayCyy Pluto as he’s also known, was born in Kenya and moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota at the age of 9 with his family. He is reportedly signed to Kanye West’s new record label YZY SND.

Originally named Mark Mbogo but professionally known as KayCyy Pluto, the Kenyan-American artist has been making waves in the world of music over the last few years.

In an interview with Kare11, the 24-year-old singer said, “Reason being why we came here, it’s just like for any immigrant or anybody that tries to come to America, for like, the American dream.”

The musical bug bit KayCyy at an early age and he began making gospel music. After high school, the rapper, who wanted to start his music career, ran away from home and landed in New York. Although his immigrant parents didn’t approve of his musical ambitions at first, they are more than proud now.

KayCyy is currently managed by Akon’s brother, Bu Thiam, who is also the manager of Kanye. The music manager introduced the budding artist to Kanye and he soon became the Grammy Winner’s protege.

The Kenya born artist revealed that he helped write three songs for Kanye’s, Donda album. The tracks he co-wrote are Hurricane, Praise God and 24.

KayCyy also offered his vocals for the track Keep My Spirit Alive.

So far, the 24-year-old rapper has released two full-length albums: Patient Enough in 2020, and Ups & Downs in 2021. He has also worked closely with the likes of Lil Wayne, Travis Scott and Justin Bieber.

KayCyy previously dropped two full-length albums and has writing credits on Lil Wayne‘s Funeral and Kanye‘s “Wash Us In the Blood” single.

Following the release of Donda, KayCyy took to social media to comment, “Two years of working on an album … learned so much around the genius! And I’m so honored to have been a part of it! GOD IS GREAT.” We’ll keep an ear out for more from him.
