Apple seems to file patent applications on a weekly basis, with one of the latest to be granted centering around a convex iPhone display, AppleInsider reports. Approved just days ago by the US Patent and Trademark Office, the patent is titled “Electronic devices with convex displays,” as it describes a curved screen that would extend over the sides of the iPhone.
If created, such a display could be made from flexible OLED or LCD panels, while the cover layer or the housing could be constructed from glass and a reinforcement layer crafted from metal.
A rounded display would allow for added components within the iPhone — such as a larger battery — while also making the device appear thinner overall. It could increase the surface area of the screen as well, wrapping around the edges and onto the back of the phone.
